Renate Röder was born in Munich in 1941. After the war she lived in Cologne together with her mother and grandmother. She never got to know her father and grew up in the belief that he had died during the war as a soldier. But the older she grew the more she was suspicious about his political attitude during the Third Reich because of his high ranking position. Only in 1979, after a long period of research in archives did she find out the truth about him.
After she had been interviewed by Dan Bar-On in 1986 she joined the self help group of descendants of Nazi-perpetrators. Since 1992 she is a member of TRT*.
She worked as a teacher at a kind of comprehensive-school (Integrierte Gesamtschule), which runs a pilot project with the integration of handicapped students.
In 1992 Dan Bar-On brought together descendants of survivors and perpetrators for the first time and founded so the TRT-Group ("To Reflect and Trust").
